Contemporary Designed Kitchen

When the clients bought their period house in Killiney they turned to DKD who had done their previous and highly individual kitchen. This time the brief was for a design which would marry the old basement level room with an unfussy approach that would complement the existing stone chimney breast and covings.

The other issue was that to enter the new dining/ living areas, access was through the kitchen. Thus, the design needed to have a clear passage for easy movement, whilst not intruding into the work areas of the kitchen; oh! And not to worry about mess being visible.

This problem is solved by placing all the tall units on the wall beside the main door and putting the sink section into the island behind the eye catching bar height seating space done in solid finger locking Walnut.
The chimney breast which was painted in White, reflects the light from the opposite windows. The technique used also emphasises the texture of the original stones.

The extra height wall units with their press and release opening system which gives a flawless clean appearance, combined with the under counter drawers here and in the island gains maximum storage. The black Aga is complemented by the use of granite which lines the alcove completely.

The warmth of this stone with its random markings picks up both the taupe and walnut shades creating movement and interest without fuss. Clever use of task lighting over the counters and Aga again achieve the objective of brightening the room and being discreet in look allow the statement pendants over the island to focus attention.
