Modern Kitchen Foxrock

When the clients approached Per to design their kitchen they had done a lot of homework with regard to the appliances and look they wanted.

Since this room was a large, airy space with a wall of glass and light coloured tiled floor, Per was keen to add an accent of warmth through wood elements. When he showed the clients a sample of Jatoba (a dramatic South American cherry) they loved it and subsequently also used it for the floor of the adjoining dining room.
The long and tall back wall block comfortably contains the large Fisher and Paykel fridge freezer with its drinking water and ice dispenser, the single oven and combi steam oven, microwave, coffee machine and warming drawer all from Miele. Also two pull-out larder units flanking the refrigeration and additional storage utilising internal drawers to keep a balances unfussy look. The simple line of the Jatoba cornice punctuates the run and repeats in the sink area.

The equally large run of units on the window wall centres on the main sink and dishwasher with ample space for general tableware storage. The two end cabinets with their opaque glass doors meet the worktop and finish with drawers. The undulating curve avoids a severe look and is echoed in the curves of both the light pelmet in Jatoba over the window and the island.

The Silestone upstand extends to the window and creates the sill. The low tap on this sink was chosen especially, so as not to impede either the look of the window nor the full opening of same.

The three metre island with its many drawers, is the main work station of this spacious kitchen. It has a circular prep sink as well as the hob allowing for easy and safe access to the main food storage area and ovens. There is also a separate bin unit to avoid having to constantly cross to the main sink with peelings, etcetera. A power port in the left of the island allows for extra sockets for machines. The Extractor hood has an external motor for both additional power and considerable reduction in noise. Its glass wing elegantly echoes the curve and is flanked by two PH pendants for task lighting.

The open side of the Island houses books and special objects. The round table is made in solid Jatoba and ample enough for four people. A special slot in the curved island wall allows the table to be slid in when only one or two people are using it.

The only other design element in this room is a statement chair carefully chosen by the clients for both comfort and bold impact.
On completion of the job the clients feel that the core values they sought; of function, high quality and simplicity, had been achieved with additional impact and timeless elegance by Per.
